Morning Meditation Day 2

Good morning.  Woke up at 5 am, so I was able to watch the sun come up.

Rehearsing the day ahead does not take long.  I normally have a think about what I’m going to do each day, and I’m struggling to find a way to put a Stoic slant on what is already a daily habit.

Decided to consider a Stoic virtue each day, starting with ‘Wisdom’. But what does that mean? What I think it means, is trying to be rational in all your judgements, even if it means acknowledging inconvenient truths, and being on the alert for prejudices and pre-conceptions obscuring your clear-sightedness.

I think it also means being prepared to listen to other points of view, and not dismiss other people’s ideas out of hand because they are e.g. “stupid” or “racist” or “right-wing”.  You can at least acknowledge that they seem rational to the person expressing them, even if they seem illogical and even evil to you.

And it means accepting that you are not always right in your judgements, because you are not actually the most intelligent person in the world, or the most knowledgeable.

I’m going to be out at lunchtime today, so I’m going to do the midday exercise now.
